 Handling Resistance
If you want people to do something different, simply asking them, may not always
work.
When the change involves
deeper issues that touch upon attitudes and feelings, more wisdom is needed.
The first step is to hold a mirror up, so that people can see
themselves as others see them. This new perspective is often all that's needed to cause change to happen immediately.
With other more complex issues, people need to understand how
they themselves have helped to create their own experience, so that once they can see how they create it, they can also un-create it.
The next step is to help them design their new way of being.
This must be appealing and powerful and linked to their highest values.
For some people however, it will be necessary to work with the
resistance to change. These are usually negative emotions, unexamined attitudes and beliefs and old patterns that keep people from revealing more of their potential.
